Even if the Czech Republic is not traditionally associated with wine production, in recent years this country has started to produce some high-quality wines, especially in southern Moravia. The Czech Republic has a long tradition of winegrowing and vinification and most of the country’s vineyards, and in the recent years the interest for wine has increased a lot.

Regarding large-scale distribution, 70-80% of the wine is sold in supermarkets, hotel, cafes and restaurants. As for foreign wine, it is preferred by those with a much higher income level who give much more attention to the origin and the quality of the wine itself. Obviously, we are referring to a consumer with a higher life status than the average. In fact, in the last 20 years the salaries in the Czech Republic have increased significantly, enhancing the well-being of the population. Even the import/export sector to Italy also increased significantly: in 2021 the export has been of 7,412 billion € while the import of 7,556 billion € and the increment in the export of wines towards Italy has been of + 8.9%.

However, the rules of large-scale distribution in the Czech Republic follow the same one as all Europe: obligation of counter-labelling for the sale to the consumer with the possibility of entry also for medium-small producers. The fastest and practical way to access the Czech Republic wine market is by targeted promotion of the product, direct presentation, workshop, tasting and B2B meetings.

Furthermore, even though Czech Republic has started making its own wine, the interest towards foreign wine still very high making this country a perfect new market for most of European wineries. Czech Republic, is one of the most promising market in central Europe, and most of the business is concentrated around Prague, likely most of the importers. The wide investment in the tourism of last years, are making the country an absolute center of arrival for a lot of organized travels from US, and Asia, making the capital, an excellent point of visibility for international consumers.
