The Lithuanian wine market is one of the most important of the Baltics area showing an increasing trend of 10-15% each year.
It is considered a gold market, creating a bridge between Estonia and Latvia. This connection is helping the wine business of Lithuania and its neighbour’s countries. In fact, it is quite common to find the same wine brand in all three countries. The alcohol legislation in the country is permitting restaurants and retailers to import their wines directly.On the other hand, the government, in 2018, banned the promotion and the public communication of any alcohol in wine bars, shops and on articles. After this government move the promotion of alcohol consumption through active marketing was forbidden increasing the importance of the figure of the sommelier, becoming fundamental and necessary to sell the wines.
No-alcohol wine and natural/organic wine trend are growing on the market, while full-bodied red wine with soft tannins such as Primitivo and Monastrell are covering another important piece of the market share.On the premium level the trendiests are wines coming from the area of Champagne, Burgundy and Tuscany. Meanwhile Cava, Prosecco and Cremant wines are covering one third of the sparkling wine market in the country. Studies shows that in 2021 the sales of wine and fermented beverages in general have increased by 14.2 percent compared to the previous year. Meaning that the possibilities on the Lithuanian market are still very high, having different tasting profile consumers. Not to mention the advantage of reaching out to more than one country.
